Information of IRS Tax Forms

Livingston Municipal Library has received a notification from the IRS regarding the availability of tax forms for the 2018 tax filing season. We would like to share their statement with the community.

IRS Tax Forms Outlet Program (TFOP) Partners

On January 4, the IRS announced that the 2018 tax filing season would begin on January 29. The IRS set the opening date to ensure the security and readiness of key tax processing systems in advance of the opening and to assess the potential impact of recent tax legislation on 2017 tax returns.”

In regards to the free forms the IRS ships to TFOP Partners, they stated that “We are currently working to finalize the forms and instructions to reflect the legislation which passed in late December.  As a result, some shipments may come later than normal. While most IRS tax forms, instructions and publications will be available electronically on IRS.gov by the beginning of the filing season (Jan. 29), the printing and distribution process for printed products takes longer to complete.”

Again this year, the IRS is providing us with limited amounts of forms and instruction booklets.  All of the forms and instructions are free to download directly from the IRS website at www.irs.gov/Forms-&-Pubs. The public can also call the IRS at 1-800-829-3676 to place your order.

We will have employer forms available to distribute to those employers who may need them beginning on January 17, 2018. Employers who need large quantities of forms or less commonly used forms can order them directly from the IRS for free at www.irs.gov/Forms-&-Pubs/Order-Products and clicking on Employer and Information Returns. The forms are not downloadable but usually ship within a few days. There is no charge for shipping.

Individuals needing to E-file their taxes have many resources available to them for free. Visit www.irs.gov and look for the Filing and Payment section and click on Free File to obtain more information. There are also many other services available on the internet that can be used to E-file taxes for a small fee. Some of the more popular sites available online are Turbo Tax and H&R Block.

We regret the inconvenience this causes to many members of our community who are trying to complete their tax returns. The public is welcome to use our computers in the library to download and print any forms from the IRS without a library membership. Individuals must be 18 years of age and possess a current form of ID. Black and white printouts are .25 per page.  We do not charge a fee for the use of the computer or the internet. We encourage the public to bring in their own flash drives to save any of the forms or booklets needed by an individual. The public can also use our computers to E-file their tax returns. Please be advised that the library staff cannot answer any tax related questions, but we can help you locate needed tax forms. We can also offer assistance in using our computers. Individuals who have their own devices may use the library’s Wi-Fi for free.
