How to Get a Card

Who can get a card
Anyone residing in Polk County (age 10 or older) is eligible to get a library card. Minor children younger than 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian when registering for a card. Institutions, including private schools, daycare centers and nursing homes, may apply for an Institutional card (contact the library at (936) 327-4252 for more information).

How to Get Your Card
All customers wanting a library card must provide proof of current address. Such proof may be a current driver's license, I.D. card, voter's registration card, check, a recent letter or bill, etc. This proof must be in the customer's correct name, or in the name of the customer's legal guardian or parent when the customer is under the age of 18.  In addition, applicants must provide the name of a contact person who does not reside in the same household.

Temporary residents of Livingston may get a temporary card, if staying in the area at least three months, by providing proof of a current Livingston address and the name and phone number of a contact person. The current address must be a proper mailing address, not a hotel room, etc.  A library card is then issued and will be valid for the duration of their stay (at least three months). Cards will not be issued for a period of less than 3 months.

Customers residing inside the physical city limits of Livingston can register at no charge. Polk County residents outside the physical city limits of Livingston will be required to pay a $5.00 annual membership fee.
